Whether you are building new or remodeling an existing structure it’s constructive to establish your list of goals for your project. You probably have a ton of ideas in your head and the potentials are seemingly limitless. Now is the time to think about all that is actually needed and what could be left out if necessary.

What will this cost?
Can it really be achieved?
Does plan A make sense?

PLAN A BUDGET

There is a lot to consider when planning a budget for your home or remodel. Take some time to evaluate not only what this will cost now but what other costs there will be after completion. A lot of the goals you set will be decided based on your budget. This is where you will again need to consider what is needed versus what is wanted and what boundaries you want to budget them into.

It may sound a little repetitive at this point but it still holds true, plan for now, plan for the possible and plan for the future. Your builders, remodelers and designers are they and they’ve run into things you couldn’t imagine. Ask for their insight and recommendations throughout all portions of the build process.

NEGOTIATE CONTRACT

Here is where all the specifics should be ready and laid out for you by all aspects of the project. Design, engineering, builder/remodeler specs and all the costs involved with moving your project forward.

BUILD OR REMODEL A HOUSE

CONSTRUCTION PROCESS

Prepare construction site and pour foundation
Construct rough framing
Complete rough pluming, electrical and HVAC
Install insulation
Complete drywall and interior textures; start exterior finishes
Finish interior trim; install exterior driveways and walkways
Install hard-surface flooring and countertops, and complete exterior grading
Finish mechanical trims; install bathroom fixtures
Install mirrors, shower doors and finish flooring, and finish exterior landscaping

ACCEPT THE INEVITABLE

Things will come up during the building or remodeling process. The way your team handles these set backs and surprises is very important. Your Builder, Designer, and Architect are just as involved with the process as you are, so a team that works well together through challenges is essential.

FINAL WALKTHROUGH WITH BUILDER

This is the chance for the builder/remodeler to walk you through your newly finished home and show you how everything works, inform you on proper maintenance and discuss all warranty items and their time periods.
